Benjamin Moore is strengthening its presence in the UK and Western Europe through two strategic investments: a manufacturing facility in Prudhoe, Northern England, and the acquisition of Craig & Rose, a heritage paint brand in the luxury, design-driven architectural coatings segment.
In the following Q&A, Dan Calkins, chairman and CEO of Benjamin Moore, discusses how the moves support the company’s regional supply chain, premium product strategy and long-term growth.
PCI: How will the Prudhoe facility strengthen Benjamin Moore’s regional supply chain and support demand in the UK and surrounding markets?
Calkins: “As a part of our global expansion, BM Prudhoe Limited has completed the acquisition of a manufacturing facility in Northern England from Horizon Products. The site brings extensive experience in manufacturing and filling, backed by a reputation for quality, agility and continuous improvement. New employees will join Benjamin Moore, adding valuable local expertise and additional resources, which will help strengthen our team in the region. This acquisition accelerates our strategic, intentional growth. It adds the regional insight and operational capabilities needed to expand our portfolio and deliver innovative product solutions for our customers. It also positions us to increase manufacturing capacity, and supply chain resilience and flexibility.”
PCI: What attracted Benjamin Moore to the Craig & Rose brand, and how do you plan to preserve its distinct heritage and identity while supporting its growth?
Calkins: “The addition of Craig & Rose bolsters our position in the luxury, design-driven segment of architectural coatings, extending our reach with A&D professionals, discerning consumers, and premium residential contractors. Craig & Rose will operate as a standalone brand with its own market-facing strategy. Our decision to acquire Craig and Rose was primarily based on its reputation as one of the most prestigious premium brands that is highly regarded for its rich heritage, superior product quality and unique color archives. This heritage and brand identity will remain at the core as we look to refresh the portfolio, branding and color selection.”
PCI: What opportunities does Benjamin Moore see in the UK and Western Europe, particularly among premium residential contractors, architects, design professionals and consumers?
Calkins: “Over recent years, the Benjamin Moore brand has become a valued partner for independent retailers, specifiers and professional painters in the UK and Europe. With our new UK manufacturing capability, we can now accelerate and strengthen those partnerships through further development of market specific products. Existing customers will see enhancements to our leading products and services while new customers will gain greater access to the brand through our local supply chain solutions.”
PCI: How do these developments fit within Benjamin Moore’s broader international strategy, and what should the industry watch for next?
Calkins: “These investments advance our strategy to grow with intention – enhancing both our portfolio and operational capabilities while bringing us closer to customers. They position us to increase manufacturing capacity, supply chain resilience and flexibility, as well as deepen our presence in Western Europe with targeted segments and support long-term growth.”
