PPG said the forecast represents a shift from the brighter and more expressive hues identified for 2026 toward muted colors intended to provide a stronger visual foundation across architectural and design applications.

“Country Soil is designed for slowing down,” said Irina Hanhisalo, PPG color category lead, EMEA, Architectural Coatings. “For 2027, we have selected a grounding color that acts as a solid foundation for any project.”

The company said the color draws inspiration from clay-rich earth and weathered stone and can be used as either an accent or across walls, trim and ceilings.

Country Soil has a relatively low light reflectance value, which PPG said gives interiors a more enveloping appearance by diffusing rather than strongly reflecting light. The neutral can also be used for exterior applications.

Within the broader forecast, Solid Ground combines the shade with organic materials and textures. Quiet Zone uses softer pastel combinations, while Life Shared incorporates the color into a more energetic, vintage-sports-influenced palette.

PPG develops its global color forecast through an annual workshop involving color specialists who analyze influences across architecture, consumer products and industrial design. The company has conducted the process since 2013.

Country Soil can be formulated through PPG tinting systems and will be available through selected PPG architectural coatings brands in Europe, the Middle East and Africa; Latin America; and Asia.

PPG’s forecast gives coatings manufacturers following color trends a global view of how architectural palettes are shifting toward warmer, muted neutrals that can work across interior and exterior applications.
