Axanzo Name Prompts Active Online Discussion

AkzoNobel and Axalta Coating Systems’ announcement that their proposed combined company will be called Axanzo has prompted an active and mixed response online in the days since the Oct. 15 reveal.
PCI first reported that Axanzo would become the name of the combined company following completion of the proposed merger. The companies also announced AXZ as the planned post-closing ticker symbol on the New York Stock Exchange and Euronext Amsterdam.
By Oct. 18, the PCI and AkzoNobel LinkedIn posts had generated hundreds of reactions, dozens of comments and numerous reposts. At the time reviewed, PCI’s post had drawn more comments, while AkzoNobel’s official post had the larger reaction and repost totals.
Those figures measure activity rather than approval. The posts reach different audiences, comments are voluntary and self-selected, and LinkedIn reactions can represent several forms of response. The discussion therefore offers a snapshot of early public reaction, not a representative survey of the coatings industry.
The visible comments ranged from congratulations and support for a fresh corporate identity to skepticism about the name. Recurring themes included how Axanzo should be pronounced, whether it is sufficiently distinctive and memorable, and how effectively it carries forward the recognition associated with AkzoNobel and Axalta.
The two comment threads also differed somewhat in tone. Responses to PCI’s post leaned more skeptical, while AkzoNobel’s thread included a broader mix of congratulations, neutral questions and criticism. Supportive commenters generally viewed the blended identity as a clear connection between the two companies and a new starting point for the proposed organization.
AkzoNobel and Axalta described the name as a “subtle, but intentional” reference to the heritage of both organizations. The companies also released a 47-second video introducing the Axanzo name and visual identity.
The name will eventually sit above a combined portfolio of approximately 100 paint and coatings brands operating across more than 160 countries. AkzoNobel and Axalta said the announcement does not change how customers and partners currently work with either company. Both businesses will continue operating independently through their existing teams, brands and relationships until the transaction closes.
The companies expect the merger to close in early 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary conditions. In a separate development, AkzoNobel and Axalta submitted commitments to the European Commission on Oct. 15 as part of the EU review of the proposed $25 billion transaction.

Axanzo is intended to become the corporate identity above roughly 100 paint and coatings brands. Early questions about recognition, pronunciation and brand continuity show why clear communication will matter as customers, suppliers and employees prepare for a combination spanning industrial coatings, automotive OEM, refinish, powder, marine, protective and architectural markets.
