Manual Powder Coating Platform Adds Targeted Spray Control

Gema has introduced a new generation of its manual powder coating platform designed to increase application precision and give operators more control on difficult part geometries.
The OptiFlex ProX series combines Gema's TargetSpray technology with its PowerBoost electrostatic technology. TargetSpray provides operator assistance for coating recesses, edges and complex geometries while concentrating powder in the intended application area. Gema says the approach can reduce overspray and powder consumption while improving surface quality.
PowerBoost provides charging capacity of up to 110 kV when additional electrostatic performance is required.
The new OptiSelect ProX manual gun integrates TargetSpray controls into the gun. Gema also introduced an OptiStar ProX control unit with touchscreen operation and TargetSpray assistance.
The platform is available in several configurations.
The ProX B feeds directly from the original powder box and is designed for fast, clean color changes. The ProX F uses a 50-liter fluidized hopper for higher-volume production.
B Spray and F Spray configurations pair the system with Gema's OptiSpray application pump. The company says the pump supports stable powder output and repeatable results over longer production runs.
The ProX S uses a stirrer for powders that can separate during fluidization. The CF configuration uses a removable funnel for small batches and samples. Gema also offers laboratory and quality-control versions for small powder quantities and a wall-mounted version that can be integrated into existing lines.
The ProX range builds on Gema's existing OptiFlex Pro platform and is now being introduced through the company's regional distribution network.

Manual powder application still depends heavily on operator control, particularly around Faraday-cage areas, recesses and complex geometries. The new system targets those application challenges while adding controls intended to reduce wasted powder. See more of PCI's coverage of powder coating application technology.
