This month's appointments and announcements

Brendan Cummins

  • Raymond J. Altenburger has been named vice president of new market development for The Chemical Company, Jamestown, R.I. Darren W. Howell has also joined the company as Midwest territory manager.

  • Brendan Cummins, who has been chief operating officer since October 2005 of Ciba Specialty Chemicals, Basel, Switzerland, will be appointed the new CEO, while Armin Meyer, chairman of the board and CEO, will focus on his role as chairman of the board.

     



  • Armin Meyer

  • International Paint LLC, Houston, a division of Akzo Nobel, has hired Timothy Davis to serve as senior account executive over the company’s protective coatings sales throughout the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. Davis was previously employed at Ameron International for one year as a technical sales representative. He served another five years at Sherwin-Williams in its industrial sales division.

  • The board of directors of Benjamin Moore & Co., Montvale, N.J., has announced that effective July 1, 2007, Yvan Dupuy, chairman and chief executive officer of the company, will relinquish the title of chief executive officer, remaining solely as chairman. Denis Abrams, currently president and chief operating officer of the coatings manufacturer and retailer, will succeed Dupuy as chief executive officer, while continuing to retain the title of president. The title of chief operating officer will be retired.

     



  • Olivier Faussadier

  • Eliokem, Akron, Ohio, has appointed Olivier Faussadier, director and member of the executive committee, to head up the newly created Ventures Department, which is exclusively dedicated to finding acquisition opportunities in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Since 2004, Faussadier was director of technology and manufacturing and general manager of the Ningbo operations (China).

  • Akzo Nobel, Arnhem, the Netherlands, welcomes Ton Geurts as director of purchasing. Geurts joins Akzo Nobel following a successful career at DSM, where he served in a wide variety of senior positions in legal counseling, purchasing, and business and program management.

  • The CHEMARK Consulting Group, Inc., Southern Pines, N.C., has named Herbert Giffins senior architectural consultant. According to Phil Phillips, managing director of CHEMARK, Giffins has had highly successful experience in the architectural coatings business, the last 21 years with the Kelly Moore Paint Company and the last seven as president and CEO.

  • At DS Containers, Batavia, Ill., Brock Manner has been named director of sales, Midwest, and George Buckland, director of sales, East Coast. They will report to Emil Obradovich, vice president of sales, marketing and technical support.

     



  • Carl Mondoro

  • Bunge Ltd., White Plains, N.Y., has appointed Carl Mondoro general manager of Bunge Biphor LLC. In his new position, Mondoro will be in charge of all operations related to the development, marketing and manufacture of BIPHOR™ white pigment.

  • Lamberti Synthesis USA, Chattanooga, Tenn., an operating division of Lamberti USA, has hired Robert J. O’Toole as business manager of the newly formed company. O’Toole’s most recent duties were as business manager (Polymers/Surfactants) and global director (Energy Cure) for the Cognis Corp.

  • Dr. Volker Petry is the new head of applications in Europe for RAHN, Zurich, Switzerland. His main duties are implementing customer projects, evaluating new and existing products, and coordinating laboratory operations.

     



  • Anthony Reed

  • Silberline Manufacturing Co., Inc., Tamaqua, Pa., announced that Anthony Reed recently joined the firm as director of global automotive marketing. Prior to signing on with Silberline, Reed was a sales representative for NL Industries and most recently worked for BASF in the pearlescent pigment business.

  • At Maroon Inc., Avon, Ohio, Dominic Romito has been promoted to director of polymer technology and will manage the company’s resin portfolio. Steve Mensen has been named inside sales manager, bolstering Maroon’s customer support.

  • BASF, Charlotte, N.C., has appointed Drew Rutherford sales manager for the BASF Acrylic Monomers and Superabsorbent Polymers business in North America.

  • Russell Spotten has been named national sales manager, surface preparation and coating applications, for Moisture Control Services (MCS), Glendale Heights, Ill., a division of Munters AB. Before joining Munters, Spotten was the senior industrial coatings specialist for Central California at ICI Devoe Coatings.
