New Nanowire Coating Improves Bone Implants and Stents - Posted 08/22/07

University of Arkansas researchers have found a simple, inexpensive way to create a nanowire coating on the surface of biocompatible titanium that can be used to create more effective surfaces for hip replacement, dental reconstruction and vascular stenting. Further, the material can easily be sterilized using ultraviolet light and water or using ethanol, making it useful in hospital settings and meat-processing plants.

Rohm and Haas Co. and Weihai Jinhong Polymer Co. Ltd have begun formal operation of a joint venture company, Jinhong Rohm and Haas Chemical Co. (JinHaas), following the announcement of the agreement in December 2006. Headquartered in Weihai, Shandong Province, JinHaas will produce methacrylate butadiene styrene (MBS), acrylic impact modifiers (AIMs), and acrylic processing aids for distribution in China, as well as in other emerging markets.
