AkzoNobel is set to invest €22 million in its French operations, with a focus on transforming the Montataire site into a flagship for decorative paint production. The company has presented a plan to its employee representatives and employees in France, which includes the investment as well as a broader effort to streamline and optimize its operations.
The proposed plan is part of AkzoNobel’s long-term strategy to enhance its competitiveness and drive sustainable growth. In addition to the investment in the Montataire site, the company is also looking to reorganize its commercial and support functions, as well as its distribution network. This could involve the transfer of some outlets to independent partners and the closure of others.
As a result of these changes, AkzoNobel is anticipating a reduction of up to 211 positions in France, while also creating 29 new jobs. The company currently employs 1,300 people in the country.
The plan is set to be implemented gradually, with a timeline stretching from May 2025 to the end of 2026. AkzoNobel has already begun the consultation process with local social partners.
In addition to the changes in France, AkzoNobel is also in the process of closing its manufacturing sites in Groot-Ammers, Cork, and Lusaka. The company is looking to transfer production from these sites to other locations in the region.
AkzoNobel’s decision to invest in its French operations comes as part of its broader Industrial Excellence program. The company is looking to rationalize and modernize its operations in order to ensure long-term success.
