PPG Expands Packaging Recycling Program

PPG announced that its Sigma Coatings brand has partnered with waste logistics provider FIRE-OFF and packaging manufacturer Dijkstra Plastics to launch Sigma EcoCollect, a nationwide recycling initiative in the Netherlands. The program enables professional painters to return scraped-empty plastic and metal packaging, including containers from competitor brands, to more than 90 Sigma Coatings points of sale for collection and reuse.
According to PPG, the program will support its goal of increasing post-consumer recycled plastic and metal content in its packaging. EcoCollect builds on a pilot project that began in September 2024, which saw growing participation and increased conversations with customers about sustainability. The rollout expands the initiative to 32 PPG Sigma Service Centers stores and 61 Sigma Coatings wholesalers, with FIRE-OFF managing logistics and Dijkstra Plastics processing returned materials.
The company noted that the program aligns with its Tomorrow Included concept, an effort to highlight sustainability attributes within its architectural portfolio. “This program is a powerful step toward circularity,” said Petra Bijma, PPG brand manager for B2B Sigma Coatings Benelux. “It aligns with PPG’s global sustainability targets, including reducing scope 3 emissions and increasing the use of recycled materials in packaging and limiting waste.”
PPG’s latest sustainability report cites progress toward its 2030 goals, including reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and increased sales of sustainably advantaged products.
