PPG introduced its Aquacron® WSP waterborne shop primers for structural steel applications. The primers protect beams, joists and framing from flash rust and corrosion during storage and transport.

The formulation creates a water-resistant layer that reduces the need for sandblasting and surface preparation before topcoat application. It also supports faster processing, curing in approximately two minutes under standard heat conditions.

The primers provide a smooth finish and maintain performance across varying temperature and humidity conditions. VOC levels can be formulated below 0.20 lbs/gal (24 g/L), supporting compliance with emissions regulations.
