2026 PCI 25: No. 7, The Pittsburgh Paints Company

Pittsburgh Paints Co.’s first full year as an independent business included a leadership change, brand overhaul and Canada’s transition to CIL.

The Pittsburgh Paints Company began 2025 as a newly independent paint and coatings manufacturer after American Industrial Partners acquired PPG’s former U.S. and Canada architectural-coatings business on Dec. 2, 2024. Headquartered in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, the company manufactures and distributes interior and exterior paints, stains, caulks, repair products, adhesives and sealants for professional and do-it-yourself customers. Its portfolio during the reporting year included GLIDDEN®, OLYMPIC®, PITTSBURGH PAINTS & STAINS™, LIQUID NAILS®, Manor Hall®, HOMAX®, TRUEFINISH™, MULCO™, FLOOD®, DULUX® and SICO™. Products were sold through national retailers, independent dealers and a network of approximately 750 company-owned stores across the United States and Canada before the Canadian business’s transition to CIL.

Standalone 2025 sales have not been reported. Sales are shown at approximately $1.88 billion, based on PPG’s reported 2024 net sales of $1.878 billion for the predecessor U.S. and Canada architectural-coatings business. PPG reported 2023 net sales of $2.004 billion for the same business. The 2024 result provides the closest comparable full-year sales base for Pittsburgh Paints Co.’s first year as an independent company and has been carried forward without applying an assumed 2025 increase or decrease. PPG’s 2025 continuing-operations sales exclude the divested U.S. and Canada architectural coatings business, which PPG reported as discontinued operations with no 2025 net sales.

CEO: Brian Carson

2025 Sales: Approx. $1.88 billion (A PCI estimate)

The former business included paints and stains alongside caulks, repair products, adhesives and sealants. The reported sales base therefore reflects the broader predecessor business rather than a coatings-only measure.

In September 2025, the Canadian business became a standalone company named Canadian Industries Limited, or CIL. Tim Fisher, president and general manager, retail, and Brendan Demler, president and general manager, commercial, became CIL’s co-presidents. Separate full-year 2025 sales for CIL and a U.S.-Canada allocation of the former combined business are not available, so the sales basis remains combined for this transition year. Pittsburgh Paints Co. and CIL can be evaluated separately when comparable standalone results are available.

Parent company: American Industrial Partners

Notes: During 2025, the company said it invested in CRM systems, color-matching tools, field-sales training, dealer support and marketing as it established its independent operating model.

In February, Pittsburgh Paints Co. appointed Brian Carson as CEO. Carson joined from flooring manufacturer AHF Products, where he had served as president and CEO. The company also announced the appointments of Joe Durham as chief financial officer and Brian Padden as president, retail.

In April, Pittsburgh Paints Co. introduced a new corporate logo and the tagline “Priming you for success.” The company said product formulas would remain unchanged as it began transitioning the PPG PAINTS® product family, including SPEEDHIDE® and MANOR HALL®, to the Pittsburgh Paints Co. identity.

Also in April, the company launched PITTSBURGH PAINTS & STAINS PREMIER™ Interior Paint & Primer at Menards. The 100% acrylic latex product is available in more than 2,100 colors and carries GREENGUARD Gold certification for low chemical emissions.

In May, the company refreshed the GLIDDEN paint assortment at Walmart with new paints, color tools, caulking products and applicators. The rollout included Cool Surface Porch & Floor paint, Cabinet, Door & Trim enamel and two paintable caulking products.

In August, Pittsburgh Paints Co. named Warm Mahogany, a deep red-brown hue, its 2026 Color of the Year. The company positioned the color within four design themes: Portal, Ode, Collective and Heirloom.

In September, Pittsburgh Paints Co. announced that its Canadian business would become a standalone company renamed CIL, focused on Canadian architectural paint and stain customers. The transition brought the Dulux, Sico and Bétonel businesses under the CIL identity. Tim Fisher and Brendan Demler became CIL’s co-presidents, leading the retail and commercial sides of the Canadian business, respectively.

In December, the company launched PITTSBURGH PAINTS ANTI-SCUFF™ Interior Zero-VOC paint, its first product to carry the new Pittsburgh Paints name and label design. The epoxy-fortified acrylic paint was introduced for high-traffic commercial and residential applications.
